TABLE OF CONTENTS

To manage your Auto Gratuity / Service Charge options, navigate to the "General Setup" tab in the back office.

1. Back Office Options (see screenshot below)

    1. Tax Rate - This refers to the rate your Auto Gratuity / Service Charge will be taxed. Note: this is separate from the tax rate that is applied to menu items. It is recommended you set your Auto Gratuity / Service Charge tax rate as the same as your normal sales tax since the IRS considers Auto Gratuity / Service Charge's as a taxable event.

    2. Display Name - You can edit this and call your Auto Gratuity / Service Charge whatever you like. This name will be displayed on the Brigade app as well as the itemized receipt for your customers.

    3. Exclusion of Sub Categories from Autograt - If you'd like to prevent certain Sub Categories (and their corresponding menu items) from having Auto Gratuity / Service Charge's be applied, just turn ON this feature and then navigate to the Sub Category (Menu Items tab) and turn ON "Exclude from Auto Grat".  A scenario where you'd want to do this is if you are applying a Room Fee or Labor Fee to a large check, but don't want to have those fees receive an Auto Grat.

    4. Auto Apply to Checks - If you'd like to have an Auto Gratuity / Service Charge automatically be applied to every check, just turn ON this option.  You can always remove an Auto Gratuity / Service Charge on the Brigade app if you'd like.  This feature is commonly used for restaurants that do not accept tips but instead are applying an automatic Service Charge to every check.

    5. Auto Apply Default Rate - Choose whatever rate you want your automatic Auto Gratuity / Service Charge to be.

2. iPad Functionality

  • Log into the Brigade app and navigate to an open check.
  • To manually apply an Auto Gratuity / Service Charge, just tap on that box in the check header:

  • You can choose a custom percentage or one of the per-percentages programed to apply to the check.
  • If you want to remove an Auto Gratuity / Service Charge, just choose an amount of 0% and press the check mark.

  •  As long as the Auto Gratuity is highlighted in orange you can be assured that it is applied to the check.

NOTE: If you apply the Auto Gratuity before you split your check the Auto Gratuity will be applied to all of the split checks unless you remove it.
